Dr Lisa Delpit presenting the keynote address at the Second Annual 21st Century Teaching and Learning Conference at the College of St. Scholastica, focusing on research and findings about the impact of racism on children’s behavior and achievement. Interesting and provocative. It is hard to figure out what, as a college educator, I could do differently because of this awareness. Dr. Delpit reiterates what happens in grade school and high school that reduces the achievement of black children — and makes it less likely that I will ever get to meet them as college students. Still, she leaves me with a lot to think about.
