Chicken Brigade

I’m visiting with the sisters of the Abbey of St. Walburga. In addition to their organic beef business, they keep cows and chickens for their own needs as well.

Tuesday was the day to move a group of young chickens from one coop to another. Most of them fit into cages, but when more could not be packed in (the source of the term “pecking order” was graphically demonstrated when they reached the crowding limit), there was nothing to do but carry the rest down the road by hand.

Thus was born the Chicken Brigade.  The rest traveled by motor vehicle:
